We define as 'ruins' (lat. ruere) crumbled structures or their remains. They have fallen in the true sense of the word. Collapsed in space of time. Have been killed in the course history. The specific reasons for their downfall, their dilapidation or disintegration are many: economic changes, wars, attacks, nature and time. The course of events. Sometimes quiet and unnoticed. Sometimes painful and by force. What has happened becomes visible and concrete in the ruin. Simultaneously the past is brought to new level of abstraction. It gains a metaphorical surplus. And yet history takes shape. The ruin can be seen as a perceptible friction surface with the past but also as a projection screen. The exhibition "Ruinenbaumeister" (builder of ruins) collects new works like drawings, sculptures, photographies and film by artists from Berlin. The same subject of their work is 'the ruin'.
