»Mutant and Proud«

Collage

Material: Magazine, Paper; Format: 12 x 22

Inspired by American director Matthew Vaughn's recent cinematic adaptation X-Men: First Class (2011), this collage – based on a original 1989 cover of the Uncanny X-Men by Marc Silvestri and Dan Green – pushes the concept of Otherness already inherent to infamous superhero team in the Marvel Comics Universe a step further. Originated in the early 1960s the X-Men series metaphorically discusses at its core highly relevant social issues such as racism, xenophobia, bigotry and prejudice in its depiction of an ongoing conflict between mutants and normal humans.
